Online Lecture: Choosing Lumber

Online Lecture: Choosing Lumber
with Master Woodworker Gary Rogowski
Spring 2021
Level: All Levels Welcome

When it comes to building a project, you are the lumber buyer and grader, the sawyer, the joiner and finisher of this wood. What you pick out, mill up, and use for each piece of your project makes a difference in how the piece looks and acts over time.

Lumber choices affect color, grain direction, wood movement, and strength. Learn how to avoid defects in the lumber you buy. Discover which ones you can mill out and which ones to avoid. Learn ways to read a board for grain matching and arranging grain for the greatest strength.

Wood as a medium for building is malleable, flexible, and strong. But in some directions it is also resistant to movement, liable to split and very weak. Knowing the qualities of wood in general and something about some species in specific will make a difference in your building projects.

Join us March 10 at 4pm PST for our next Online Lecture on Choosing Lumber. Sign up to listen and watch from the safety of your home for this information packed two hours courtesy of Zoom.
